Dag Hammaskjold Hall

Dag Hammerskjold Post Graduate Hall is named after Dag Hammerskjold Hjalmar Agne Carl, the Secretary General of the United Nations from 1935 to 1961.  He was born 1905 and died 1963.  

History of the Hall

Being the only Hall designated for postgraduate students at campus, it stands unique with no strong cultural beliefs and symbols. It was opened in 1972 and was named in recognition of the United Nation Secretary General Dag Hammalskjold Hjalmar Agne Carl from 1953-1961. Dag Hammarskjold is remembered notably for making the United Nations strong in its affairs and helped in establishing its authority to a degree respectable to its member states.

The hall comprises of two isolated blocks namely; Dag Hammarskjold with a capacity of 101 bed spaces and Mugenyi flats with 18 bed spaces. 

It is a mixed hall and private, managed by the Department of Dean of Students.
The hall also acts as a centre of attachment for all postgraduate students of Makerere University and its affiliated institutions; MUBS, Nsamizi and Kinyamasika Seminary.

The hall cerebrates Dag Hammarskjold’s week, an event being organized in honour of the late Dag Hammarskjold, the illustrious United Nations Secretary General (1953-1961) who died in Ndola in Zambia on September 18, 1961.  During this time we commemorate and reflect on activities of a person of International Character.

The hall administration is assisted by the student leadership (SCR) in the promotion of student welfare in the hall.
