Galloway Hall Of Residence

History of The Hall
This hall was build in 1929 and was purposely constructed to provide accomodation for clinical year medical students after three years of residence on the main campus. This was mainly due to limited space available since by then only 3halls of residence i.e Mitchell, CCE and new Hall(UH) were in place.Due to the publicity the medical school had got by 1952 due to accademic excellence, the number of medical students increased and some of them were still commuting daily to mulago.
The hostel was named after Professor Alexander Galloway who was among the first three professors to be appointed in the medical school. He headed the Anatomy Department and was also the Dean of Medical School

from 1947 - 1962 when uganda got independence. He was also the founder and builder of the Anatomy Department.

The hostel hass 46 rroms consisting of 14single rooms and 32 double rooms. These rooms are spacious and provide the utmost conditions for reading because they serve as bedrooms and libraries for medical students.

Hall Culture
Apart from the professional demand of being smart, clean and organized, the hostel has no other particular culture. This is attributed to the fact that more than 80% of the students come to the hostel in their final year having been under different cultures for the last four years in the different halls of residence. Their aim is oriented more towards their studies and future commitments as their final exams come near after half a decade in the university.
Also considering the maturity of the students and therefore their mode of thinking is quite different from the general feeling and behaviour of the admitted campus students commonly referred to as freshers. This makes Galloway atmosphere calm and therefore serve its purpose as a reading atmosphere.
